American Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012, beating 88 other beauties from around the world to claim the coveted title.

The 20-year-old Rhode Islander and Boston University sophomore, who took the crown from Leila Lopes of Angola, became the first American to win the coveted title since Brook Lee in 1997.

The first runner-up title went to Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon, while Irene Sofía Esser Quintero of Venezuela was in third place. The title of Miss Congeniality was given to Miss Guatemala Laura Godoy by the contestants.

With the winner finally announced, we take a look at the most glamourous - and not so glamourous - moments from this year's beauty extravaganza.

Should have been Australia or Philippines crowned Miss Universe. That is the reason why I don't watch the show anymore. Too much politics and they knew who to chose even before the show.

This show is DEFINITELY influenced by politics and hidden agendas. Anyways, it also supports Donald Trump - my main reason for no longer watching it.

Why do you have to be so skinny to be in a beauty pageant! I know many women that are more beatuiful inside and out that are of the larger size!

I haven't watched a Miss Universe pageant for many years but did last night.  What a dissapointment.  It was so biased with USA being my very last choice out of all the beautiful women.  It was just all so USA oriented.  too bad...

If you like plastic and fake personality's the Miss Universe pageant is for you. So lets get the real people in the pageant , beauty is inside not the outside. but really who would watch that?

they choose one who doesn't look like any other , after that she must have class and very good look in what she's wearing and how she express herself etc...

How did you figure that out Luck16 ? Miss Universe hasnt been from USA in a decade !
Olivia Culpo is definitely the classiest one. We've seen enough tall lean bodies and long blond Farrah Fawcett style hair.
