"Forgot your trousers?" my Dad growled at me as I left the house wearing a Ralph Lauren-esque blazer over second-skin velvet leggings. I wouldn't have dreamed of wearing actual trousers at the time, my whole wardrobe revolved around a colourful assortment of leggings in different textures and prints.
