For years you've heard that eating saturated fat is like pouring superglue into your arteries. But the fact is, this forbidden fat actually increases your HDL (good) cholesterol, which helps remove plaque from your artery walls, decreasing your risk of heart disease. So quit depriving yourself and start eating these eight foods - without guilt.

As for this being 'nonsense", many cardiologists now support Atkins and other high fat, low carb diets. Many studies have failed to show any association between saturated fat and heart disease. All Statin makers need to do is prove their drugs lower cholesterol. They don't have to, nor have they, shown that taking statins lower the death rate or heart attacks. For something that was so "obvious', why can't we find any proof low fat works?
I applaud this article, and if you don't like it, you better get used to it. You will see more and more of these articles as the science keeps coming in.
Eskimos eat a diet of up to 80% fat naturally in nature and there culture has zero heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity. Zero is not something to turn your nose up at! when americas heart disease rate is through the roof!
a human mothers breast milk is 50 to 57% of calories from fat. A chicken egg is 61% fat. Saturated fats are healthy!
But there are Saturated fats that are extra healthy and they are. Cold pressed coconut oil, Cold pressed Olive oil, Grass fed animal fat, Grass fed animal organs, Grass fed butter, Raw grass fed full-fat milk, Raw grass fed cheese, lightly cooked eggs with raw egg yolks.
Finally...and article that has more truth than others.
Eating healthy made me gain weight year after year.
I ended up with Type 11 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure.
I also end up taking cholesterol lowering drugs (..but I didn't eat fats..)????
For my whole adult life up until age 45,.... I ate a seemingly healthy diet.
Lots of veggies...'NO FAT's..(well very little)...exercised etc. etc.
NO I didn't even eat sugars, drink pop or eat fast food..(just in case you're wondering)
I was so confused and OVERWEIGHT....
I'm certain everyone thought I must be lying about my eating and exercising habits.
No doubt people thought I was a 'closet cookie eater' and just lazy!
I gained weight...steadily every year.....'WHAT A CONUNDRUM'??????
Then I went on Atkins....lost 80 lbs almost 5 years ago.
I still eat lots of veggies, protein and yes...fats.
I DO NOT eat sugars, white flour foods, rice, potatoes, corn or foods
My fat ratios....Cholesterol...HDL-LDL is 1.7 which is 'AWESOME'.
My blood pressure is 115/80.
I am still overweight but still losing my excess pounds.
SO...HOW DOES THAT WORK INTO THE WHOLE SCHEME OF THINGS?
I WAS A SPECTATOR IN LIFE BECAUSE OF ALL THE 'BULL' I HEARD.
I MISSED OUT BECAUSE I WAS OVERWEIGHT AND EATING HEALTHY!
OKAY...I'm done crying. I'm going to go make myself a nice cheesy
omelette for breakfast and have a cup of coffee with real cream!
CARBS MADE ME FAT....AND....FAT MADE ME LOOSE WEIGHT! GO FIGURE????
My mother smoked, drank (not to excess), ate whatever she wanted etc. and died at 92. My dad died at 67, rarely drank liquor and gave up smoking for the last 20 years of his life and on his death bed said he was sorry he gave up the pipe he loved to smoke as he was miserable most of his last 20 years.
Get on with your lives and make your own choice on what is BEST FOR YOU and not everyone else.
People, people, people.
Don’t get your panties or underwear in a knot. All this advice is for your entertainment (with some educational material), so take it for what it’s worth.
Everyone knows that these food are not healthy for you if consumed in large amount and everyday. So don’t feel guilty if you go to a drive-though once a month (because you were to busy to make the kids supper). Enjoy. Fulfill that craving, because if you do not you will fill it with bad calories (chips, twinkies, and ding ****s).
Life is a full of temptations and at times we should give into them as long as there is a balance, with exercise and healthy choices everyday.
to be honest, all of them were "duh" for me.
coconut has been myth-busted ages ago by countless repeats of health articles, and the rest are just common sense.
You could apply the same perspective to Marijuana, saying how it is used in medical remedies... despite being an illegal drug to trade.
I enjoyed reading the commments of DV134....white eggs are bleached....I guess the chickens bleach them since I have collected many a white egg fresh laid. The simple fact is that different coloured eggs are laid by different chickens and, assuming they eat the same feed, there is no significant difference in health benefits between one and the other.
I also noted that some have used this comment section to promote their own lifestyle or links that are basically based on personal opinions of various authors, not necessarily backed up by good science. Oh well, to each their own so I will put in my opinion....
The simple fact is that none of the foods indicated in the article are necessarily bad and all have nutrients that the human body can use to it's benefit. The trick is of course to eat them in moderation and to eat a balanced diet. The much maligned hamburger can actually be a well balanced meal if the ingredients used are not a bunch of fillers and other chemicals. Butter, although it is high in saturated fat is lower in trans fat than hydrogenated margarines and used in moderation can make healthy foods even more attractive to the taste buds. The removal of all fat is bad for the body as fat is used by the body in many ways. The problem today is most people seem to have a lack of common sense and fail to balance diet and exercise (my problem).
Wow!! Is right DV134... bleached eggs!! now that takes the cake ... what a load of garbage you spew..
Men's Health is bang on on everything in their article.. all those foods mentioned have been the victim of half lies/untruths for years. Beef ,chicken with the skin, pork and yes bacon have many more good qualities than bad..
those negative ones pertain to those who eat gargantuan quantities and those in the fast food line up.. copious amounts of sodium and saturated fats and other chemical additives yes are indeed found in fast food... but... grill up yourself a good home made beef burger or that roasted oven chicken or a couple of eggs and some low sodium bacon in the morning with a little butter on your whole wheat toast and you have a healthy meal that puts gas in your engine and leaves you ready for the day... Eating healthy is pretty easy to do... you have to make the time to cook your own meals... and choose your groceries wisely..
My Grandparents lived on a farm and were pretty much self sufficient,, beef ,chicken ,pork, goat ,duck , geese ,moose, bear ,deer and bees with a large vegetable garden and they lived a ripe old age of 88 & 91 passing away in the early 1980/81.
It's not the food we eat that is killing us, it's the a m o u n t of it.
That same father in law that I mentioned in my above post, once told me that the secret to good health was" Push-ups" and these push-ups he said, were done at the table, when you push yourself up from the table..... It was never a rule in our home to "clean our plate" as it is in some homes. We were always told that the little dog or kitty had to eat too... and they had table scraps.. and they lived for years as outside and inside pets. much like they do now.
